Preparing for Winter Costs

Written by David Dixon – 12/19/22

Winter months can be sad and depressing for many reasons: especially due to earlier nighttime hours and temperature changes. You don’t need to let rising expenses get you down. Budgeting effectively can keep you from being overwhelmed over bleak wintertime months.

  • Plan your winter expenses as early as possible.
  • Create a budget.
  • Be sure to budget for high heating and energy prices.
  • There is no guarantee that prices will go down; however, it is possible prices will go up.

Not only is creating a budget a must, but it is also best to begin looking for ways to cut costs in your monthly spending habits. Things to look at:

  • Subscription Services - are you really using them?
  • Can you cut out a trip for your regular espresso drink? Or to your favorite restaurant?
  • Contribute to a ‘rainy-day fund.’

It’s important to make wise decisions regarding your funds.

Take action to cut winter expenses:

  • turn down the thermostat
  • winterize your home.
  • create a winter spending plan
  • Become aware of payment plans and assistance should you qualify or need assistance.

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant.
If we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”
~ Anne Bradstreet
