NO MORE NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS!

Written By: Sandi MacCalla ~ 1/9/2023

Seriously!?! How many hours have you spent writing goals, visualizing the future and chanting affirmations? There is an easier way!

What we’re really trying to do is change our lifestyle by establishing good habits. First, drop all the usual names: goals, resolutions, mindset, affirmations, ad nauseum (definition: doing something repeatedly and over a long period of time so that it becomes annoying or boring!)

BLOGPOST_NoMoreResolutions01092023A.jpgThere are simple ways to establish good habits:

  • Make the habit easy to do.
    • Choose a simple one that fits into your current routine. For example, if you want to exercise, start by doing a few push-ups or sit-ups every day instead of committing to a full workout.

  • Start small.
    • Don't try to change too many things at once. Instead, focus on one habit at a time and build up. Little steps make better progress.

  • Track your progress.
    • Use a journal, app, or spreadsheet to track & measure your progress. Seeing the change you are making helps you stay motivated and on track.

  • Find a buddy.
    • Find a friend (accountability partner) to help you stay the course with your new habit.

  • Be consistent.
    • Try to do the habit at the same time every day to help make it a routine. This ‘normalizes’ your new habit so that you feel it when you don’t do it. Example: what it feels like when you don’t brush your teeth or take a shower.

  • Don't beat yourself up.
    • It's okay to slip up occasionally. Just get back on track as soon as possible and don't let one setback discourage you.

  • ‘Gamify’ your new habit if it keeps you engaged.
    • Get competitive (with yourself); set up prizes, awards or trophies, etc. Just try not to interrupt the basics above. You know what works best for you.
    • When you reach your new ‘norm,’ feel free to post a sign on social media with your accomplished milestone!

As is popular to say: Rinse & Repeat!
