The Goal of Life Skills

It’s known that every parent’s goal for their children is to grow up happy, fulfilled, independent, and successful. A powerful way to begin this is to share goal setting with them. Here are 4 easy ways to get started:

  • Write goals down. It keeps them top of mind.

  • BLOGPOST_GoalOfLifeSkills05012023.jpgCreate action plans. These steps help reach the goals.

  • Share action plans with someone whose opinion is valued. This starts the process of being accountable and respected by the people they respect.

  • The best of all: do a weekly progress report - in addition to the above. This keeps the focus on reaching those goals.

Learning SMART goals (for kids) is also a great life skill to create realistic goals and actively develop a growth mindset (for all ages). So, what are SMART goals?

  • Specific - What specifically do you want to accomplish?
  • Measurable - Is it measurable? How will you know when you have reached your goal? Who can help you?
  • Attainable - Is it achievable? What could stop you from reaching your goal? What do you need to attain it?
  • Realistic- Is it realistic? Why is this important and why do you want to do this
  • Time-Bound - Is it time-bound? When will your goal be reached?

BLOGPOST_GoalOfLifeSkills05012023B.jpgBy asking these questions, you can easily explain this life skill and set your own SMART goals. These 5 criteria are a great example for your children and a powerful habit for clarifying your goals! It works out steps and helps accomplish goals in smaller increments when they seem overwhelming.
